Rahim B. Kanani writes about leadership, mastery and the human disciplines underneath both. Over 15 years, he has interviewed the world’s finest luxury hoteliers and critically acclaimed chefs, and has produced three books on what these operators have learned about attention, presence and the standards that make a life of demanding work worth giving.
The interviews began in 2012 and ran across five continents: the general managers behind properties such as Four Seasons, Mandarin Oriental, Raffles, Rosewood and Singita, and chefs from Le Bernardin, El Celler de Can Roca, The Inn at Little Washington, n/naka, and the late Anthony Bourdain. The first two books, the two volumes of A Wealth of Insight, profiled the hoteliers and the chefs separately. The Luxury of Attention brings both into one argument: that the two crafts practice a single discipline, human attention, and that the best operators run it as an operating standard rather than a personality trait.
He has also interviewed more than 600 of the world’s foremost executives and innovators across business, politics and the arts, including Justin Trudeau, Tony Blair, Michael Bloomberg, Alicia Keys, Madonna, James Cameron and José Andrés, and has written on leadership and hospitality for Forbes.
